The brakes team is responsible for insuring the car can pass brake check at competition. The purpose of the brake system is to slow and/or stop the vehicle. This is accomplished by converting kinetic energy into heat. We use a hydraulic brake system on the Mini Baja car. The braking system is the single most important subsystem on the car. This is due to the fact that each vehicle must pass brake check (locking up all four wheels at racing speed) before being allowed to compete in any of the dynamic events. Each year many team fail to pass the brake check.
